A handsomeArt Deco inspired fireplace surround, made in our own workshops from reclaimed Portland stone. The design draws on the clean architectural geometry of the 1920s and 1930s, combining strong proportions with restrained decorative detailing.
The broad frieze is centred by astepped, fluted integral keystone, its vertical lines fanning subtly outwards to create the principal decorative feature of the surround. The moulded opening incorporates gently rounded upper corners, softening the otherwise linear form and introducing an influence reminiscent of earlierQueen Anne chimney-piece designs.
The overall composition is deliberately understated, allowing the natural markings and fossil inclusions of the Portland stone to become part of the design.
Classical in its balance yet distinctly Deco in its ornament, it sits comfortably within both period and contemporary interiors.
