Decorative late Victorian fire surround in the Rococo Revival style.
The reclaimed antique piece has richly modelled ornament throughout. The shaped frieze is centred with a shell motif, framed by flowing scrollwork and delicate floral detailing, while the cabriole-form jambs are adorned with applied foliate drops and scrolling relief decoration.
The surround has a distinctly French influence, echoing Louis XV revival designs popular in the late 19th century. Its serpentine opening and fluid ornamentation give it a refined yet playful character, ideal for both period interiors and more eclectic decorative schemes.
