An exceptional Aesthetic Movement cast iron fireplace insert, manufactured by Bishop & Barnards, circa 1870 and inspired by the designs of Thomas Jeckyll - one of the most influential figures of the movement.
The fireplace features intricate geometric fretwork panels typical of Jeckyll’s Anglo-Japanese style. Paired with a superb set of original hand painted tiles in rich green, ochre and terracotta tones. The sunflower motif is a hallmark of the Aesthetic Movement that symbolises nature, beauty and artistic craftsmanship.
A rare and highly collectible example of late Victorian design. Showcasing the perfect harmony between industrial cast ironwork and artisanal ceramic detail.
