Antique Georgian Irish Black Limestone Fireplace with Original Cast Iron Insert

A handsome and well-proportioned Georgian period fireplace surround, carved from Irish Kilkenny marble, and offered complete with its original cast iron insert—a rare and highly desirable combination.

The surround is architectural in character, with a broad mantel shelf above simple, confident jamb. A deep charcoal with soft grey undertones, naturally figured with cloudy fossil inclusions and subtle calcite.

At the centre sits the original Georgian cast iron register grate, beautifully scaled to the surround. The survival of the insert alongside the stonework is a significant advantage, allowing the fireplace to be installed as a complete and historically coherent ensemble rather than an assembled pairing.
