An outstanding antique chimneypiece in white statuary marble. This original nineteenth century fireplace surround is in the Louis XVI manner, with palatial proportions and finely carved decoration. The paneled frieze features a Vitruvian scroll within a beaded border. A central plaque features a floral garland against a bow and arrow, decorated with foliage and ribbons. The wide jambs have tapering stop-fluted half columns, with finely carved bellflower insets and floral swags with delicate ribbon details. This is an exceptional grand antique fireplace in very good condition, ideal for a large reception room or similar.
