Reclaimed Large Cast Iron Lion Head & Hand Door Knocker

This large, cast iron, ornate door knocker delivers a striking piece of door furniture.

Acquired from Spain, the Mediterranean influence of this 19th century piece can be seen in the 'knocking hand' element ( a particularly popular amulet to use to ward off evil).

What makes this piece so unusual is its inclusion of door knocker style elements that have all been incorporated into this one piece:

Alongside the protecting hand, the lion’s head symbolises bravery, nobility, strength, and valour. There are also nods to nature and folklore with the face of the Green Man that sits beneath the hand. To either side of the hand sits a squirrel and a hare.

A splendid piece that would offer a very warm welcome to guests entering your property with the added historical references to protection and strength.

A wonderful addition to a number of front door styles.
